Bonus Puzzle - Symbol Sudoku
As mentioned yesterday in my wrap-up post, the Surprise Sudoku for the SudokuCup was rewritten to mark all possible groups and also made easier. This is the original puzzle for those who are interested. Note that the rules here do not require that all instances of a particular pair/quadruple to be marked.

Symbol Sudoku
Rules: Write a single number from 1 to 9 in each cell such that each number appears exactly once in each row, column, and bolded 3x3 box. There are some symbols that touch either 2 or 4 cells; the same digits must appear in the cells touched by a symbol each time that symbol occurs, but the digits can appear in any order.

I enjoyed this puzzle, though I struggled terrifically with it - took over 27 minutes to complete. I have one complaint, however, and I wonder if others had the same experience.

At about the four minute mark I had to scrap my puzzle and start over, after realizing that each color of triangle came in upright and upside down flavors. Even after restarting I caught myself mixing them up a couple times. I think I would have liked it better with either letters or three extra shapes (non-triangles).

Still, great puzzle and a fun solve. How was the turnout on your tournament?

Meant to say one extra shape (in three colors).

Yes, it seems a lot of complaints (here, on French/Swiss forums, ...) have been on triangle confusion and if I had to change the puzzle, I would certainly have used other shapes or, if printing was in my control, use a broad range of colors.

My SudokuCup got an ~70+% increase in the number of scoring competitors from the last, and was just under 500 total, both of which I'm very happy with.
