More Press
Yesterday was a hard day to get any work done in lab as interview requests from a variety of sources were coming through. I'll add in more stories here as I find them but I'll start with a nice piece from the Palo Alto Daily News that was picked up by the San Jose Mercury News. Following too strictly to my rule of no puzzles in lab, I had to find a newspaper in our cafeteria to have a sudoku to solve for the photographer. Still, I like the general message of the piece and have no complaints about any of my quotations.

San Jose Mercury News

Palo Alto Weekly

USA Today - Highlight is definitely the opening lines which continue an earlier meme.

Stanford Daily - which reinforces that my generation doesn't spell check, with some Synders and sudokos and Luca to be found. They made their own championship puzzle graphic, which was certainly not at the championship, but its a 2.5 minute puzzle.

The Buffalo News - who have me going to India in November, but otherwise are factually sound.

WPSU radio piece "sports that are not football" for NPR. This piece played on that station immediately before Will's Sunday puzzle where I got another very kind mention from the puzzlemaster.

There are also two earlier NPR stories (one before the championship, one the day after) that I feel like linking to.

Wall Street Journal Q and A (with a sudoku I wrote) - unfortunately the interview calls me Mr. Snyder and it turns out I am somewhat incoherent when I speak.

As an aside, when I got home from the championship where I complained about "how heavy" the trophy was, the trophy came home just fine but the box it was given to me in was completely battered and broken. Somehow 5+ lbs of solid trophy can destroy a cardboard box.

Good Soduko Win!
I've never quite understood -- it's just six letters, people! Sue-Dough-Koo. The most common one I get is Sue-Doo-Koh -- as in "Hey, it's Jason, the Suduko champ!". The puzzle-title mispronunciation being only the second-most infuriating thing in that sentence, of course...

I'd be interested to hear others' comments, but as for me -- 0.7mm is plenty sturdy, and erases very easily. 0.9mm is fine too, but overkill in my book.

Also, wow, the Stanford Daily archive really really sucks.
